#14- Is God Binary?

Is there anything in the Bible about gender fluidity, or being non-binary? Are there fifty different genders? I am trans. It is, at times, like being a third non-conforming gender.

Does it matter to your eternal destiny? Is God binary, or only approving of the binary?

Matthew19:4-6

Jesus answered, “Surely you have read in the Scriptures: When God made the world, ‘he made them male and female.’ 5 And God said, ‘So a man will leave his father and mother and be united with his wife, and the two will become one body.’ 6 So there are not two, but one. God has joined the two together, so no one should separate them.”

The Bible does generally support the traditional family unit. A lot of churches will regard relationships and identities outside of the norm of man and wife as sinful. The political environment can also be very hard on the trans, and it feels like we are a target as trans are bashed daily on the airwaves. Many churches are condemning and not accepting.

Luke 15:1-7

Then all the tax collectors and the sinners drew near to Him to hear Him. 2 And the Pharisees and scribes complained, saying, “This Man receives sinners and eats with them.” 3 So He spoke this parable to them, saying:

4 “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? 5 And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6 And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’ 7 I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.

Today's "big sinners" and the scorned are not the tax collectors, but the gender community. We are constant targets and are considered abominable. Gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, trans, non-binary, gender fluid, are all lumped into the 'abominable sinner' category. Jesus said to the religious leaders of the day that there is more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents and finds salvation, than over 99 people who don't need to repent. (note: see below for video link -my video - where cis gender - is just as abominable as gender abominations).

I am trans, I was one of the lost ones. I was not one of the ninety-nine 'good people'. It is clear that no matter how big of a sinner the world thinks the gender community is, Jesus wants us in heaven, and all of heaven rejoices when a sinner is saved. If Jesus were here today, I believe he would have dinner with the non-binary, if we came to him to hear him.

Here is something I think about. I wonder if our gender ideas, and identity feelings and definitions can work against us? They help us to state who we are and easily communicate what we think about ourselves. Our identities help to insulate us against harsh judgement from the religious and help us to bond together. At the same time, could that insulation keep us from being saved by Christ? We don't want anything to do with the church and the judgement of men, so we naturally shy away from it. Just like a family member asked me, "why would you want to be part of something (Christianity) that says you are evil and puts you down?"

My answer is this: I don't have a religion; I have a relationship with Jesus Christ. God will judge me, and not the people who attend churches. And Yes, God is binary. But the 'binary' that is important... is not about gender at all. It is about the 'book of life'. Either you are in the book, or you are not.

Revelation 1:18, "I am alive forevermore... and have the keys of hell and death."

Jesus boldly declares that he has the authority over heaven and hell.

Luke 10:20

Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”

Revelation 20:12-13

And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done.

When you are saved, your name is written in heaven, into the book of life. All of heaven rejoices with each name that is written.

All the various genders? Guess what, they don't even matter.

All the fifty flavors will not matter in the end. There are only two choices. Did you seek Jesus and choose life? Or did you keep away? Your name is either written in the book of life or it is not. You are either saved, or you are not. It is completely binary; it is black and white. There are only two choices!

Choose Jesus, choose life!
