#6 Heaven Looks Like What?

So what is this idea of heaven, and what does it look like? We all know the cartoon version is St. Peter standing at the pearly gate on a cloud like a gatekeeper, with angels on the clouds playing harps. I dunno, but it seems to me the 'cartoon version' of heaven sounds rather boring?
Instead the Bible says this:
But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”
We can't even imagine what God has prepared for us! If man can come up with sports, games, hobbies, crafts, architecture, vehicles, planes, boats, entertainment, movies, internet, artificial intelligence, competitions, books, movies, TV, theatre, medicine, all manner of technology, and anything you can think up that man has created....Then, how much more will be things and experiences that come from the mind of God? I think that heaven will be anything but boring! I want to see it, as it must be a truly awesome experience.
And it gets even better. There is no more death or pain in heaven. Only joy.
I have a lot of underlying pain from my trans journey. I have pain from harsh treatment by my parents and bullying by neighbors, kids in school, and even a Sunday-school teacher. I was asked by church leaders to remove myself from participation in church activities. Believing my trans ideas to be 'abominable' sins, my pastor told several other people about me in a betrayal of my confidentiality, and I felt utterly devastated and hurt by that. My spouse withdrew from me, both in communication and in physical and emotional support. She also betrayed my trust by speaking to others about me without talking to me about 'us' at all. I bear the pain of walking out of the household and the effect of divorce on my kids.
Jesus forgives me and I rest in the comfort of that, but the underlying pain does not go away entirely, and healing is not easy. I can't even imagine what it would be like to feel the joy of Christ that I know, but without any underlying pain at all? This will be something glorious indeed.
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
And better still. Heaven is forever. And we get a new heavenly body that cannot die.
But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.
Revelation 22:3-5
No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever.
Whose idea is heaven and where does it come from? The word ‘heaven’ appears 582 times in the King James Bible version of the Bible – 327 times in the Old Testament and 255 times in the New Testament. Heaven is referred to in 54 of the 66 books of the Bible. Jesus referred to heaven 70 times in the book of Matthew alone. If you believe in Jesus as Lord, you have a heavenly hope!
Some of the descriptions of heaven are remarkable indeed.
And the twelve gates were twelve pearls, each of the gates made of a single pearl, and the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass. And I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb. By its light will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it, and its gates will never be shut by day—and there will be no night there.
And Jesus says he is preparing a place for us! The carpenter is building us a heavenly home!
In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.”
I can't even imagine what it will be like, but I am so looking forward to heaven.
Why would anyone want to miss out on this? "No Christianity is not for me, because.....?"
"Eat drink and be merry for tomorrow ye shall die?" Ok...but is this world at all we have?
The bible says no, there is much more. There is a heaven. Everyone will eventually die. We are made of dust and return to dust. Even the richest man in the world cannot take his riches beyond the grave.
As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.
Accept Jesus as Lord. Follow Jesus. Focus on him and his will and store up a treasure in heaven and not here on earth! Things of the earth will pass away.
“For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind.
Another really super interesting piece is that Jesus returns to earth and reigns on earth for a period of 1000 years. It is afterward a new heaven and new earth are created.
Revelation 20
Then I saw an angel descending from heaven, holding in his hand the key to the abyss and a huge chain. 2 He seized the dragon—the ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan—and tied him up for a thousand years. 3 The angel then threw him into the abyss and locked and sealed it so that he could not deceive the nations until the one thousand years were finished. (After these things he must be released for a brief period of time.)
4 Then I saw thrones and seated on them were those who had been given authority to judge. I also saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of the testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. These had not worshiped the beast or his image and had refused to receive his mark on their forehead or hand. They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. 5 (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were finished.) This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is the one who takes part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years.
7 Now when the thousand years are finished, Satan will be released from his prison 8 and will go out to deceive the nations at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to bring them together for the battle. They are as numerous as the grains of sand in the sea.9 They went up on the broad plain of the earth and encircled the camp of the saints and the beloved city, but fire came down from heaven and devoured them completely.10 And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet are too, and they will be tormented there day and night forever and ever.
The idea of heaven is solidly based across all of the bible. If you believe the bible, and believe Jesus, then you can rely on a heavenly hope. It is mind boggling. It is difficult to understand. There is a 1000 year reign of Christ on earth and then Eternity.
